Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, an international community of Roman Catholic women, vowed to serve people who suffer poverty, sickness, and ignorance, with a special concern for women and children. Sisters of Mercy of the Americas includes more than 5,100 Sisters and 2,300 Mercy Associates in 49 of the United States and the District of Columbia, and in 11 countries.

Sisters of Mercy of North Carolina consists of 121 vowed Catholic women religious and is one of 25 regional communities that belong to the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas. The Regional Community of North Carolina has its headquarters located in Belmont, North Carolina, just outside of Charlotte.
