Helpful
information about our Urgent Care Centers
We want
you to have the best possible outcome from your visit with us.
The guidelines in this brochure will help you understand how
we can work together to achieve this goal.
Our
physicians
All staff physicians at Sisters
of Mercy Urgent Care Centers are North Carolina-licensed and
Board-certified. However, you may also be treated by a resident
physician, physician’s assistant or nurse practitioner,
all of whom are licensed and fully qualified.
Injuries
and illnesses treated
At Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care, we treat non-life-threatening
injuries and illnesses. Types of injuries treated include cuts,
lacerations, burns, sprains, strains, eye injuries and simple
fractures. Types of illnesses treated include colds, sore throats,
flu, fever, upper respiratory infections, urinary tract infections,
insect bites and digestive ailments. We also provide physical
examinations and treatment for ongoing medical problems.
Treatment
priority and wait times
Typically, we see patients at our Urgent Care Centers in the
order they sign in. The exception would be patients needing
immediate attention because they have potentially dangerous
conditions. In certain cases that do not require a doctor’s
attention, patients may be seen by a lab technician or nurse
before patients who must wait for a doctor. Visit times may
vary, but our intention is to limit visits at our Centers to
less than one hour.
Hours
of operation
All Sisters of Mercy Urgent Care Centers are open seven days
a week. Click here for
hours of operation.
Emergency
or after-hours needs
If you need to speak to a health care professional during hours
we are closed, please contact your family physician’s
office. Any time you need emergency medical care for a life-threatening
injury or illness, visit your nearest hospital emergency room
or dial 911 immediately.
Prescription
refills
We may be able to refill some prescriptions by telephone. However,
refills for prescription medications such as antibiotics for
acute conditions generally require an evaluation at one of our
Urgent Care Centers.
Lab
and X-ray results
Over 90% of all laboratory tests and X-rays ordered by our physicians can be performed on site at the time of your visit. When you undergo a laboratory test or X-ray at our center, you
may call for your results after one week has elapsed if you
have not already heard from us. When you call for your results,
please allow 24 hours for our clinicians to call you back. If
we complete a test during the first part of a two-part visit,
results may be held until your second visit. If you are referred
to a specialist who then orders a test, we request that you
call his or her office for those results.
Referrals
Our physicians and physician extenders are trained to deal with
most non-life-threatening medical problems. However, if your
illness or injury is beyond the scope of our services, we will
recommend that you consult a specialist. We can recommend a
physician who has the needed expertise or endeavor to arrange
a referral to your preferred specialist. If hospitalization
is necessary, we will make those arrangements as well.
Fees
There is a standard fee for an initial visit at our Urgent Care
Centers. However, there may be additional charges for medications,
medical supplies, lab work, X-rays, EKGs, surgical procedures
and various other services.
Payment
Payment for medical services, including any co-payment and deductible,
is due at the time medical services are provided unless alternative
arrangements are made in advance. Cash, check, debit card and
credit card are accepted methods of payment. We also participate
in many insurance plans (see below).
Insurance
We participate in the insurance plans listed below. Should your
plan require a co-payment or a deductible, it must be paid at
the time medical services are provided.
